Eradicating poverty is not an act of charity, it's an act of justice and the key to unlocking enormous human potential. Still, nearly half of the world’s population lives in poverty, and lack of food and clean water is killing thousands every single day of the year. Together, we can feed the hungry, wipe out disease and give our communities a chance to prosper and live a productive and better life.

Climate change is already having a profound and alarming impact worldwide. Global temperatures continued to increase in 2016, setting a new record of about 1.1 degrees Celsius above the pre-industrial period. The extent of global sea ice fell to 4.14 million square kilometres in 2016, the second lowest on record. Atmospheric CO2 levels reached 400 parts per million. Drought conditions predominated across much of the globe, influenced by the El Niño phenomenon. In addition to rising sea levels and global temperatures, extreme weather events are becoming more common and natural habitats such as coral reefs are declining.

Investing in education always pays off. Addressing the technological transformation of economies while ensuring an energy transition to a low-carbon generation model will require all available talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). But interest for those disciplines is fading among students. That´s why Siemens Gamesa's Social Commitment division has a long-term strategy aligned with Quality Education (SDG4) focused on STEM. If communities where we work don’t have access to quality education they won’t thrive, and neither will Siemens Gamesa.
